Obituary for Thomas Charles Nickerson

Thomas Charles Nickerson
It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas Charles Nickerson, 63 of East LaHave and formerly of Cape Sable Island, announces his sudden passing on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.

Born in Doctor’s Cove, on April 5, 1949, Thomas was the son of the late Claredon and Viella (Blades) Nickerson.

Thomas worked in the fishing industry all of his working life operating his business, Clardeon S. Nickerson Ltd. in Clark’s Harbour, retiring in 1994.

In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors spending time with family and friends, walking, camping, attending Blue Grass events and wintering in New Port Richey, Florida.

He treasured each day and made the most of it with family and especially the time spent with his grandchildren.

We will miss his intelligence, strength of spirit and his kindness shown to every one he met.

Thomas is survived by his wife the former Linda Oxner, daughters, Denise (Ahmad) Barkhouse, Bedford, Laura (Nathan) Herritt, Pine Grove; step-sons, Devin (Jennifer) Herritt, Moncton and Colin (Lindsay) Herritt, Halifax, grandchildren, Brandon, Ryley, Reese, Danika, Nolan and Ava; sisters, Hattie (Owen) Nickerson, Bedford, Claire Brannen, Northeast Point; brother, Claredon “Brother” (Francis) Nickerson, Centerville, and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas was predeceased by his son, Danny Charles Thomas in 2003.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Thomas at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg during visitation on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and where a service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Old Kirk Cemetery, Northeast Point.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Crohns and Colitis Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to charity of your choice.
