Obituary for Ronald Frank "Ron" Ernst

It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald Frank Ernst, 59, of Lunenburg announces his passing on Friday, September 5, 2014, at home.

Born in Lunenburg, Ron was a son of Frank Ernst of Lunenburg and the late Bessie “Judy” (Cox) Ernst.

Ron was born and raised in Lunenburg, attending both the Lunenburg Academy and Jr. Sr. High School. Throughout his working career he did many things including employment at then National Sea Products (1978-1983) sailing on the Cape Bauld and later the Cape Hunter; not wanting to spend his life at sea he then became Manager of Bluenose Golf Club in Lunenburg (1983–2006) and after a sabbatical that lasted a little over a year, worked as a labourer in two types of construction jobs, where he was an asbestos removable laborer for Asbestos Abatement Ltd.

Through these jobs Ron acquired a number of awards and certificates including professional drivers and Canada safety council courses, trawler man certificate for offshore fisheries, business management degree, level two golf professional certification from the United States Golf Teachers Federation out of Port St. Lucie, Florida, which he attained while studying in Myrtle Beach South Carolina, as well as numerous courses and certificates, all under the watchful eye of the Provincial Governments.

Ron had two hobbies in his life, sports and music. He was a fan of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, baseball’s Oakland Athletics, CFL’s Hamilton Tiger Cats as well as a big fan of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders. His major passion was hockey where he was a “dyed in the wool fan” of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were his favourite artists, and although he had no musical talent, he was impressed and very proud that his sons Matt and Steve practised on instruments and became quite talented with them.

Besides his father, he is survived by his companion, Sue Boulanger; sons, Matthew (Shannon Hall), Halifax; Stephen (Lynn Misner), Lunenburg; step-daughter, Cindy (Gordon Hopkins), Pleasantville and their grandson Bradley Tenwolde.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg and where a memorial service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Robert Zinck officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, Canadian Cancer Society or the Diabetes Association of Canada.
