Obituary for Eric Bruce Allen

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Eric Bruce Allen, 82, of Nictaux and Sunnybrook, passed away peacefully, Sunday, November 8, 2015 at home following a long illness.

Born in Lunenburg, he was the son of the late Capt. Robert and Hazel (Covey) Allen.

As a young man Eric moved to Montreal and worked at RCA Victor.He returned to Lunenburg in the early 1960’s where he worked with ABCO Industries. Following that he worked at Acadia Gas in Bridgewater. In 1970 the family moved to Middleton where he eventually owned and operated his family business. Eric took great pride in employing local people.

An avid golfer, Eric held memberships for many years at the Bluenose Golf Club, Lunenburg, Eden Golf and Country Club, Paradise, and Osprey Ridge Golf Club, Bridgewater.

Over the years, Eric was also an active member of the Middleton Lions Club and the Middleton Curling Club and enjoyed his time on the shore in Lunenburg County.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Eric is survived by his wife, the former Joanne Abbott; daughter, Mary Jane (Peter Aulenback), Conquerall Mills and son, Bruce Allen, Houston, Texas.

Besides his parents, Eric was predeceased by his brother, Cecil Allen and sister-in-law, Dorothy Allen.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg where a Memorial Service to celebrate Eric’s life will take place Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., Rev. Dr. Laurence Mawhinney, officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Eric’s memory may be made to Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
