Obituary for Bernard Cecil Baker

Bernard Cecil Baker
It is with great sadness that the family of Bernard Cecil Baker, 80, of Lunenburg, announces his passing on Monday, August 22, 2016, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Herman’s Island, Bernard was the son of the late Earl and Lily (Westhaver) Baker.

Bernard took his earlier education in a one room school house on Herman’s Island and went on to take his machinist course at the Vocational School in Halifax. He started his working career at the Lunenburg Foundry and then went to work for 44 years with ABCO Industries, Lunenburg, retiring as foreman of the machine shop.

He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and family was the most important, cherishing the times spent with family and friends at home and the cottage on Herman’s Island. He spent many hours with his family cruising and fishing the beautiful islands of Mahone Bay. Always willing to take part in a lobster/mussel boil or any other dish involving seafood. During the colder months Bernard and his grand-daughter spent many hours watching hockey together. Bernard always enjoyed a great conversation on political and current affairs and had a keen interest in what was happening in the community of Lunenburg.

Close to his heart was his love for his four legged friends, especially his beloved Bella and enjoyed their daily walks.

Bernard had a witty sense of humor, which he maintained along with a positive attitude through his illness.

Bernard is survived by his beloved wife, Philomene; cherished daughter, Carol (Richard) Mosher, Martin’s Brook; love of his life, his grand-daughter, Sarah; god-daughter, Julie Lambert, Martin’s River; sister, Christine (Hubert) McNeil, Summerside, PE; brothers, Gilbert (Barbara), Lunenburg; Vincent (Norma) Waterloo, Ont. special uncle to Peter and Valerie, and his other nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Mary Jane; his brother, Robert, who was killed in action overseas during WWII, and brothers, Laurence and Carl.

Memorial Service to celebrate Bernard’s life will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. Interment will be at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

The family would like to thank their extended family, neighbours and friends who helped and journeyed with them during this difficult time. Appreciation goes out to Sharon Boudreau, Gary and Lisa Dares and Alan Glover and Jackie-Lee Chisholm for all their support and caring way.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lunenburg County VON, SHAID Tree Animal Shelter or to any other charity.

"Love you to the Moon and Back"
