Judge Robert Cecil Hebb, 83, of Lunenburg and Martin’s Brook, Lunenburg County, N.S. died at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, October 5, 2016.

Born in Halifax, NS on April 28th, 1933, he was the son of the late Ronald MacIntosh Hebb and Nora (Thomas) Hebb.

He is survived by his wife, Leila Ann (Rayworth); two children, Susan Redding (Robert) of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, USA; Stuart, wife Elizabeth and two granddaughters - Laura and Claire of Newport, Rhode Island. He was predeceased by his sister, Marilyn Convery of Toronto and brother, Thomas of Halifax.

Bob attended Q.E.H. and Dalhousie where he graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1960 and Osgood Hall in Toronto (1963) where he was admitted to the Ontario Bar. He practiced law in Barrie and Welland, Ontario for three years before returning to Nova Scotia. He became a member of the N.S. Bar Society in 1966 and carried on the general practice of Law in the Town of Lunenburg. Bob was President of the Lunenburg County Barristers Association and a member of the Council of the Barristers Society of N.S.

In 1981, Bob was appointed Adjudicator of Small Claims court and in 1984 Crown Prosecutor for the Young Offenders Court. He was elevated to the Bench in 1987 where he became the first Family Court Judge appointed for the South Shore District.

Bob served in executive capacities with the N.S. Fisheries Exhibition and Fisherman’s Reunion, Lions Club, Board of Trade, Lunenburg Yacht Club and was a member of the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic and served on the Advisory Board of Central Guaranty Trust Company.

Bob will be remembered for his enthusiastic pursuit of curling where he won many bonspiels and the same with racing his yacht “Subpoena II” in Lunenburg and Chester. He and his wife, Ann, travelled extensively and spent their winters in Naples, Florida. He was often seen cruising off the coast of Nova Scotia with family and friends on his last sailboat – “Magic Flute”.

A service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 2:00 P.M with Archdeacon Michael Mitchell officiating. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Anglican Church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of N.S. or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy 3, Lunenburg.

The family would like to thank Dr. John Jenkins and the staff of the medical floor of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg for the compassionate care they gave to Bob.
