Obituary for
Helen Frances Maxner
Maxner (Corkum), Helen Frances
June 29, 1929 – October 29, 2016
Helen Maxner passed away peacefully at home with her daughters and her cat Bentley by her side. She was born in Lunenburg and spent her youth on Corkums Island, Lunenburg County.
Helen worked at the previous Lunenburg Junior Senior High School as the secretary and subsequently at the Pathology Department of the Dalhousie Medical School for 20 years. She enjoyed working so much that after her retirement she volunteered extensively with the Dartmouth General Hospital Auxiliary in various positions until her true retirement at the age of 86. Helen had a keen fashion sense and was always the best dressed.
Left to mourn her passing are daughters Elizabeth Singer (Ron), Cynthia Maxner, grandchildren, Jacqueline, Christina and Nicholas Singer, Max and Alex Carr. Helen was previously deceased by her parents Alton and Mabel Corkum, husband Lawrence Maxner and sister Marion Ritcey.
Helen was fiercely independent and had a favourite saying “timing is everything”. She chose to live and pass away with this statement in mind.
Funeral to take place at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg on Wednesday November 2, 2016 at 11am with reception to follow. Donations may be made to the Dartmouth General Hospital Auxiliary.
