It is with great sadness that the family of Vera Strickland, 90, of Lunenburg, announces her passing on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Hunt’s Island Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (MacDonald) Strickland

As a young lady in Newfoundland, Vera worked in a fish plant. In 1954, she and John moved to Lunenburg with their first child, Mary. In the years that followed, and as her family grew, she was a stay at home Mom. She loved to cook and knit and enjoyed time spent in her garden. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, where she helped with the Chancel Guild. Vera was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Vera is survived by daughters, Mary (Mike Weagle) Cross, Chester Basin, Gladys
(Andrew) Collicutt, Lunenburg; Ann (Jackie Titus) Strickland, Lunenburg; and a son, David (Colleen Haire) Strickland Dartmouth; grandchildren, Angela (Jeremy) Foote and Frederick Collicutt; great-grandchildren, Ava and Ethan Foote

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, John William Strickland and a son-in-law, Larry Cross; sister, Mary; brothers, Edward, Garfield and Hartley; sister-in-law, Theresa MacDonald.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg with visitation on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Vera’s life will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at St John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg with Father Alvin Westgate officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association or to St. John’s Anglican Church.
