Obituary for Gregory Cyril Cook

Gregory Cyril Cook
It is with great sadness that the family of Gregory Cyril Cook, 67, of Upper Northfield announce his passing on Monday, December 19, 2016 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Bridgewater, he was the son of the late Roseville and Edna (Weiss) Cook.

Greg started his sea going career at an early age scallop fishing, later sailed with the research vessel the Vema where he had a chance to see the world, and then working on supply ships. He then came ashore where he trained as a meat cutter and worked in Bridgewater and Halifax, ending his career at the Lunenburg Regional Community Recycling Centre, Whynott’s Settement.

He was a Associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 24, Bridgewater.

Greg was a guy who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, from spending time with friends playing a good game of crib and pool, to working in his workshop, gardening and especially enjoying his four legged friend, Lucy. Many folks who knew Greg will remember him for always finding humour in their conversations and stories.

Greg is survived by his dear friend, Cindy Shepherd, sister, Janet (Samuel) Weagle, Rhodes Corner; brother, Gary (Nancy) Cook, Lunenburg; sister-in-law, Diane Cook, Bayport; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Jack Cook.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. #3, Lunenburg where a memorial service to celebrate Greg’s life will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Willis Ott, officiating. Interment will be in St. Matthew’s Cemetery, Upper LaHave.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, SHAID
