Obituary for Walter Maxwell Hirtle

HIRTLE, Walter Maxwell, 87, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2017, in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Yarmouth.

Born on September 1, 1929, at Indian Path, Lunenburg County, he was the second youngest of four sons born to the late John Solomon & Cora (Lantz) Hirtle.

He grew up in the community of Indian Path, where he resided until October, 1982, when he moved to First South. He received his education at the Indian Path School. He worked for Lunenburg Foundry & Engineering Limited from 1945 until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Rose Bay, and later a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg. Walter enjoyed deer hunting and spending as much time as he could behind the wheel driving hundreds of thousands of kilometers in his retirement.

Surviving are his younger brother Ronald, East LaHave, several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers Stanley and Roseville (Rosie).

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Highway #3, Lunenburg where visitation will be held on Sunday January 29, 2017 from 2pm to 4pm. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Monday January 30, at Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, The Reverend Rick Pryce officiating. Interment will be in Sunny Valley Cemetery, Centre.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, the IWK Foundation or a charity of your choice.
