It is with deep sadness that the family of Verda Lucille Conrad, 90, of Garden Lots, announces her passing on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.

Born in Blockhouse, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Zilpha (Oickle) Ernst.

In her earlier years as a young girl, she worked at Green Shutters, Mahone Bay, then, apart from a brief time at High Liner Foods when she needed curtains for her new home, she became a homemaker and mother all her life.

She and Bonnie attended many variety shows in and around the area. Verda loved to swim at Bachman’s Beach and continued to do so well into her seventies. She loved a good game of cards and was famous for her seafood chowder. Verda was a wonderful mother who was always happiest when cooking for her family.

Verda is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Brian) Himmelman, Lunenburg and Bonnie Conrad of Chester; sons, Laurel (Lillian) Conrad, Dartmouth and Berdette (Maggie) Conrad, Moncton; grandchildren, Christine, Coleen, Jeffery and Andrew and last but not least, great-grandchildren, Zoey, Chase ,Conrad, Mia and Anabel.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Leo; sisters ,Dolly, Gwendolyn, Marie, Madelyn and Lillian; brother, Donald and grandson, Nicholas.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A celebration of Verda’s life will be held May 6, 2017 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm at the Lunenburg Curling Club, 21 Green St, Lunenburg.

Memorial donations may be made to the Bonny Lea Farm or a charity of your choice.
