Obituary for Myrtle Marie Merry

Myrtle Marie Merry
It is with great sadness that the family of Myrtle Marie Merry (Carver) (Hirtle) 84, of Bridgewater, announces her passing on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born April 26, 1933 in Walden, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Matilda Carver.

Myrtle was a very independent woman who helped many people whenever she could, often mentioning helping “this ole soul” and “that ole soul”. When asked how old these people were, she would reply, “75”, which was much younger than she was. She continued to drive until June when she made the very hard, but smart, decision to stop once she realized it was no longer safe for her to do so. She will be fondly remembered for her love of hummingbirds and the fun she had collecting them.

Her greatest loves were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nothing made her happier than supporting them in all of their endeavors.

Myrtle is survived by children, Carl (Bernadette) Hirtle, Vogler’s Cove; Paul (Shirley) Hirtle, Greenwood; Rickey (Darlene) Hirtle, Bridgewater; Nancy Hirtle, Chester Basin; grandchildren, Benjamin (Heather) Hirtle, Nicholas Hirtle, Amy Hirtle, Chad (Arwen) Hirtle, Stacey Hirtle, John Hirtle, Stephen Sawler, Craig (Lindsay) Lenihan and Lianne Lenihan; great-grandchildren, Jane, Kayleigh, Isaac and Calib; sisters, Laura Salsman, Cambridge; Esther Legge, Liverpool; brother, Leonard Carver, Liverpool and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers, Arthemus, George, Wallace, Arnold, Paul and sisters, Mary, Blanche, Lois, Elva, Beulah and Beatrice and good friend, Mansfield Selig.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3 Lunenburg. A memorial service to celebrate Myrtle’s life will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. Chad McCharles officiating. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Interment will be in Walden Community Cemetery, Walden.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Walden Cemetery, South Shore Regional Hospital or Ovarian Cancer Canada.
