It is with great sadness that the family of Hugh Chapman Mclelan, 68, of Martins River announces his passing on Sunday October 8th, 2017 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Montreal,PQ, he was raised in Oxford Nova Scotia by the Late Dr. Gerald Wilson and Miriam (Chapman) Mclelan.

Hugh graduated from UNB – Fredericton with a B. Sc. In Electrical Engineering. His professional career was spent in the global Oil Industry, both onshore and offshore throughout the world.

Hugh loved all things to do with the water, he was an avid sailor and served 3 years as commodore of the Bedford Basin Yacht Club.

He enjoyed skiing, travelling and spending time with family, friends and his dogs. Hugh took great joy from supporting his children in all their endeavors and extended that passionate interest to his grand-children. His whit and humour was felt by all who had the opportunity to meet him and you could always count on Hugh as the source of many a good story.

Hugh is survived by his wife, Lane; Sons, Troy (Kristin) , Vancouver, Tyson (Megan) Edmonton; grandchildren Chase, Aurora, Quinn and Rhys; sisters, Sandra (John-Michael) Walsh, Liverpool, Carol (Dr Ernest) Ewaschuk, Oakville; brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas (Nancy) Wilson Mclelan.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. Cremation has taken place.

A gathering to celebrate Hugh’s life will be held Sunday, November 12th, 2017 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Martin's River Fire Hall, 7533 Hwy. 3, Martin's River.

The family would like to thank all who have supported them during this difficult time, and request in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to South Shore Palliative Care or a charity of your choice.
