Obituary for Marion Charlotte Louise Falkenham (Dares)

Marion Charlotte Louise Falkenham (Dares)
As the sun rose over the harbour on the morn of November 29, Mom was on her way to heaven.

Marion Charlotte Louise Dares was born in Lunenburg on September 24, 1922 to a hardworking fishing and farming family - Hattie Knickle and Urban Dares. She lived in First South with her older siblings Harriet and Warden.

In her younger years she worked at the Lunenburg Fish Plant until she met her future husband Elvin at the local skating rink. After marriage she moved to Wayside Dairy Farm, Lilydale where they raised their three children. She actively worked alongside her husband doing all the farm chores. She maintained a large vegetable garden and took pride in making prize winning pickles and jams. Marion loved to entertain family and friends during meal times. Her love for cooking and her skill at teaching others have inspired all her children and grandchildren to duplicate her recipes. We still enjoy her quilts and braided rugs. Marion was a very compassionate, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many. Family was most important in her life.

Marion truly enjoyed the winter vacations and southern cruises she experienced with Elvin and close friends.

She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church and Golden K Kiwanis. She cherished the friendships she developed with members of these groups.

Marion is survived by her husband of 71 years, Elvin; daughters, Faye (Robert Conrad), Hubley, Vickie (Frank Allen), Corkums Island and son, Peter (Kathie Kirkpatrick), Lunenburg; nine grandchildren, Nicole, Kim, Matthew, Sarah, Dana, Jeffrey, Stacey, Nicholas, Andrew and five great grandchildren.

We would like to thank the health care workers and staff of Harbor View Haven, Lunenburg.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg where visitation will be Friday, December 1 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 2 at Zion Lutheran Church with Interment at Hillcrest Cemetery, Rev. Rick Pryce, officiating.
