Obituary for Cynthia Florence Louise Morrow

Cynthia Florence Louise Morrow
Cynthia Florence Louise Morrow was born in Lunenburg on October 12, 1931, an only child to John Douglas Rhuland and Violet Louise (Geldart) Rhuland and died on January 3, 2018 after a short illness.

Cynthia attended Lunenburg Academy and completed her schooling at Edgehill School for Girls in Windsor. She then later attended Mount Allison University and shortly thereafter married James Benjamin Morrow.

Cynthia was predeceased by a son, Alan James, and is survived by her children, John Gregory (Stephanie), and Debra Jean (Russ) Gowan and grandchildren, Tara, Olivia and Alicia.

Always proud of her father’s most famous creation, The Bluenose, Cynthia was a member of the St. John’s Anglican Guild, the Lunenburg Curling Club and the Lunenburg Yacht Club. In later years, she was a volunteer at the Veteran’s Unit of Camp Hill Hospital, Halifax.

Cynthia derived great pleasure in spending time with her family and friends whether at festive dinners, quiet get-togethers or aboard the family yacht, the “JayBee” on both calm and energized sails. She also loved visiting the Halifax Public Gardens for the flowers and concerts. She delighted in visits from her granddaughters and kept herself up-to-date on all their latest endeavours.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral home where a service celebrating Cynthia’s life will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm, Rev. Alvin Westgate officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia or Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
