Condolence: To Holly and all members of Michael’’s family: Please accept my sincere condolences in Michael’s passing. I started attending services at St. Martin’s Church shortly before he left for Fall River and was sorry to see him go. During the years I lived in Martin’s River and Michael was in Lunenburg, our paths occasionally crossed and I was always greeted with warmth and good cheer. Such a very fine man will be missed by so many. Ron Hollett, Dartmouth

Condolence: Dear Holly & family, It is with a heavy hearts that we are sending our sincere sympathy and condolences. May the family find peace in the knowledge that Michael is at home with our Lord and Saviour. O Lord, Come and presence yourself with this family. Comfort them in their loss, hold them in their sorrow and sustain them through their grief. Enfold them all with your love Lord that they may rest within your arms. Watch over their sleep and take their hands each morning as they face a new day. Bind their hearts as one and bless their relationships. Might they be united in their loss but also blessed with smiles and goodness. Lead this precious family onwards to embrace life together, yet hold on to the promise of heaven. Amen.

Condolence From: Velvet and Leslie Eliuk
Condolence: Our sorrow is profound as Michael was the smiling and welcoming face of St John's and the God he served to us when we first came to Lunenburg 12.5 years ago and ever since. He enriched our lives and I value the studies we did together with him and with dear Holly. He could not have done half as much as he did without you Holly and you both served so well and so patiently even in the face of occasional disagreements coming from the parish. You both embody the word "gracious." May God's blessings, love and comforting go with Michael into the heavenly places and to Holly and their family members here

Condolence: Mitchell and Holly were members of Scotia Dancers square dance club and I always enjoyed his scene of humor and dancing with him and Holly in a square. Michael was always in a good mood and had an infectious smile which was contagious. I also feel that the Anglican church lost a great priest as he was a great advocate for the church.

Condolence From: Austin DeCoste
Condolence: Dear Holly & family... I first met Mike when he was a seminarian in the Oblates. At the time, we were in the Oblates together. Life changes. He actually sang and played guitar at my wedding over 40 yrs. ago. I have such fond memories since he was such a fun loving person. This past October I tried to see him again when I went to NS for a visit. I guess he was very sick as I did not hear back from my attempt to contact you, Holly. I regret that I was unable to connect then. I want to send my sincere condolences to you, Holly & to all your family. May you be blessed with his great memories as I am when I reflect on our past together. May God grant him eternal rest and grant you and your family peace. Sincerely, Austin DeCoste Ottawa

Condolence From: David Friendly on behalf of LARC
Condolence: Dear Holly and Family: On behalf of the Lunenburg and Area Refugee Committee (LARC), I want to offer the combined condolences of a community within our community that has lost a wonderful leader and mentor, who made all the difference to saving the lives of 5 beautiful children and their parents when he stepped forward and moved us to form our sponsorship group. He so easily encouraged the cooperation of most of the churches in and around Lunenburg, as well as some non-affiliated persons to offer time, money and energy to an effort that not only resulted in giving them a new life, it led to the impending sponsorship of a second family -- and the rescue of two more children. I also want to express my personal sorrow in the loss of a good friend and mentor who was always ready to race across cultures to me and to encourage the sharing of experiences with others. To say he will be missed is an understatement. A page has been turned, and a book closed. The story was much too short. David

Condolence From: Bruce Varner
Condolence: Holly and family - My deepest sympathies to all of you. I first met Michael while I worked as an apprentice funeral director in Mahone Bay in 1997. It was always a pleasure to work with him; he was a true gentleman and showed such compassion to the families that he served. In later years, when I moved to Halifax, I worked with a friend of Michael's, Father Gilbert Bertrand, OMI, and he shared that he, you and Michael were friends. The last time that I would have spoken with both of you was when I participated in "Lunenburg Rings" which was hosted at St. John's a few years ago. It was nice to reconnect with both of you. I'm sure that Michael's death is extremely hard for all of you, but I encourage you to remember the love that you all shared so abundantly and celebrate his wonderful life and the impact that he had on so many people. Regards, Bruce Varner

Condolence: I first met Michael when he and Holly were at Falls River living next door to my sister in law. It took us 10 years to arrange a parish exchange and for 3 months in 2006 I came to St John's Lunenberg and he came to Stroud, England. We met again in 2014 and kept in annual touch. We were saddened to hear of his passing and know that his faith has lead him straight into the arms of His Saviour. May he rest in peace and rise in glory. With our love and prayers for Holly, their family and friends. David and Megan Sutch

Condolence From: Renee Fraser
Condolence: My husband, Barry, & I express our deepest condolences to you & your family. Barry had worked on the Companion Diocese Committee back in 2007 & was asked to accompany Bishop Elson Jakazi & his wife, Victoria of Manicaland, Zimbabwe to Rev. Mike's church, St. John's Anglican Church, on Nov. 9th, 2007. Rev. Mike had given us a tour of the newly restored church & gifted both Victoria and me with the cook book, "A Touch of Hodge Podge," which I treasure to this day and where I found the recipe, 'Cod au gratin' after we had been to St. Anthony, NL for a vacation & tasted this delicious dish at the Lighthouse Keeper's restaurant there. Each time I prepare this dish, I think of Rev. Mike and of his warm hospitality that he extended to us on that visit. May God comfort you with his love during this difficult time. Kindest regards, Barry & Renee Fraser of Timberlea

Condolence: Holly and Family, I sadly got the news tonight of Michael's death. Michael and I were good friends and shared many thoughtful discussions. Maizie and I recall with joy our visits to the old rectory in Lunenburg and always appreciated your warm and friendly welcome and our conversations. Holly, we think of you as a very gracious couple and know that you must be hurting terribly at this time. We pray that God will grace you with the strength and faith to walk through this dark valley. Michael's smile, his music, his love for you and the family, his love for the ministry, his love for people, all this will be missed. May he rest in peace. "I will never forget you, my people; I have carved you on the palm of my hand. I will never forget you, I will not leave you orphaned, I will never forget my own."
