Obituary for Greg Sherman Ritcey

Greg Sherman Ritcey
It is with great sadness that the family of Greg Sherman Ritcey, 52, of Bridgewater, announces his passing on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the QE II, Infirmary Site, Halifax.

Born in Lunenburg he was the son of Willis and Shirley (Skinner) Ritcey of Bridgewater.

Greg received his earlier education at Parkview Education Centre, Bridgewater and after graduation in 1984, he started his working career with the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission in Bridgewater and remained with them until the time of his passing.

Active within his community, Greg served as a former councilor with the Town of Bridgewater from 2008 to 2012. He helped preserve the town’s history as a friend of the DesBrisay Museum and by serving on the Museum Commission. Holiday celebrations were enriched by his service as chairman of the Christmas on the LaHave committee and by his long service as a member of the Canada Day committee. His compassionate nature also moved him to improve the quality of life of the town’s residents by serving on the board of Lunenburg County Home Support and with Habitat for Humanity. He was a dedicated public servant who served his community with passion and commitment.

A faithful member of Bridgewater United Church, Greg served on many committees within the church, including his many years of service as an honorary elder and as a leader in the Scout Movement.

Greg enjoyed golfing and simply spending time at home listening to his favorite hymns. He was devoted to his family and cherished his beloved dog, Goldie Ann.

Greg is survived by his parents, Willis and Shirley Ritcey of Bridgewater; aunts and uncles, Allan and Doreen Skinner, Riverport; Barbara and Grant Nodding, Bayport; Sandra Skinner, Bridgewater; Audrey Chapman, First South; Charlotte and Lloyd Farmer, Rose Bay; Freddie and Stella Skinner, Lake Echo and many cousins in Nova Scotia and the United States.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Arthur and Charlotte Skinner and Otto and Laura Ritcey; uncles, Wallace Skinner, Bill Chapman, Frank Ritcey, Bruce Ritcey and his aunt, Vivian Whynot.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home. 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. A memorial service to celebrate Greg’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday at the Bridgewater United Church, Bridgewater, Rev. Jeffrey Chant and Angela Clifton, officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bridgewater United Church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia and the Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia.
