Obituary for Evelyn Stevens

It is with great sadness that the family of Evelyn Ruth Stevens, 94, of Second Peninsula, announces her passing on June 27, 2018 at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.

Born in Mill Cove, Evelyn was the daughter of the late George and Evangeline (Stevens) Harnish.

She was an avid gardener, growing up to 2500 flowers from seed annually and helping to keep Veseys Seeds in business. Signatures in her garden guestbook include visitors from around the world. As a superb baker, every visitor was offered an array of perfectly cut sweet treats. She was an active member of Calvary Temple until her fall at 89 years of age, which limited her activity.

Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Wilfred, daughter, Sharon (Hayden) Laltoo, Bedford; son Gregory Stevens (Katalin), Chester, grandchildren, Jared (Nicole), Lydia (James), Devin, Reanna, and great-grandson, River; daughter-in-law, Sally Deion-Stevens; half brother, Paul (Althea) Rhodenizer, Second Peninsula; sister-in-law, Shirley Rhodenizer, Lunenburg, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Neil Harnish and half-brother, Douglas Rhodenizer.

Special thanks to the dedicated home care workers who gave kind and compassionate care to her for the last five years, and more recently, to the nursing staff and doctors at the Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. James Haughn, officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. at the church prior to service.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital or to the Second Peninsula Cemetery, through the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg.
