We share the sad news of the passing of Jeff Amos on August 21, 2018 in the presence of his family in the Halifax Infirmary QEII, due to complications from a bacterial infection.

Jeff always followed his dreams. He had a curious and hungry mind, a restless impatience to act on his dreams and a confidence in his skills that allowed him to tackle anything he could possibly imagine. Over the years he developed expertise in canoe-making, cabinetry, home building, photography, forestry stewardship, coastal environmental protection, writing and horsemanship.

Jeff was born on May 20, 1949 in Ottawa, ON. He spent his early years moving around the country with his family during his father’s naval career. After graduating with a BSc in Biology from Carleton University in Ottawa, he homesteaded in the Kispiox Valley, BC where he built a log cabin and studied grizzly bears. It was during a stay in the Beaver Lodge area of Alberta that he began his lifelong interest in horses.

In 1976 he and some friends moved to Nova Scotia. Settling in Lunenburg County, Jeff immersed himself in his now well-known cabinet-making skills, happily designing and making exquisite tables, chairs and cabinets using traditional methods in both local and exotic woods. Time moved on and his twin sons Obe and Logan were born. Needless to say, these young lads grew up playing in the many sweet-smelling wood shavings from their Pop’s sharp planes.

In 1983 Jeff and Jacquelyn found each other and fell in love. Over the next 35 years, they created a unique and full life together. Jeff was in his element and loved the opportunity to be able to act on their many shared dreams, one of the more recent and enduring being Amos Wood in Blockhouse, Mahone Bay and Halifax.

Jeff and Jacquelyn shared a passion for their horses. Jeff excelled as a student of horse behaviour and riding skills. He often travelled to further these skills and was completely content when he could spend weekend time working on the nuances of his horsemanship and introducing horse life to his grandchildren Noah and Anabelle.

Jeff leaves his wife, Jacquelyn an her daughter Lindsey Saunders and partner Dan Morrissey of Halifax: son Obe and wife Michelle and their children Noah and Anabelle of Brigewater; son Logan and wife Kim of Bridgewater; brother Greg and wife Suzanne, Rose Bay; brother Stewart, Denver, CO; brother Tim and wife Melanie, Medford; sister Susan and husband Scott Ringstaff, Leander, TX; brother David and wife Doralee, Lawrencetown; nieces and nephew Emily, Erin, Joshua and Kelsey and their families. Jeff was predeceased by his parents Bill and Betty Amos; and Susan Ward, mother of his sons Obe and Logan.

Jacquelyn and family would like to thank the dedicated medical staff at the Halifax Infirmary for their exceptional care and expertise. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday September 22 from 2 to 4 pm in the Mahone Bay Centre. Jeff was a friend to many. He loved nothing better than to engage you in a good yarn. He will be remembered for his zest for life, enthusiasm and that well-known twinkle in his eye……
