Obituary for Phillip Duncanson Fielding

Phillip Duncanson Fielding, age 87, of East LaHave, formerly of Hantsport, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Phil was born on April 29, 1931 in Wolfville. He was a great husband and friend to many throughout his career and during his retirement. Phil, with his wonderful wife Elsie, of 47 years, enjoyed their property, gardening and travelling the Maritimes.

Phil commenced his working career in a local bank in Hantsport, then transferred to its Moncton and Corner Brook, N.L. branches. In 1951 he changed his career and joined the Simmons Furniture Group in Montreal, working his way up the ladder to become Credit Manager of Eastern Canada. Then he was transferred through their accounting departments to their Vancouver, Calgary and Winnipeg offices. He was later transferred back to the company's main office as the Office Manager. In 1970 he was transferred to Nova Scotia where he took part in setting up the company's new Manufacturing and Distribution Centre in Burnside, where he rose to the position of Operations Manager for the entire complex until his retirement in 1987. Upon retirement he and Elsie then moved to their country home in East LaHave, where Elsie was born in 1922.

He was predeceased by his parents, Leigh M. and Gladys (Duncanson) Fielding; brother, George H. and sisters, Octavia (Clayton) and Moyra Leigh (Osborne), and nephew, Gordon (Carol).

Phil is survived by his loving wife, the former Elsie Wamback; brothers, Douglas W., Calgary, Alta.; and David E. (Jeanette) of Dartmouth; nephews, Chris, Stephen (Min Jie), Eric (Asia), Peter, John, and nieces, Cathy (LaBelle), Mary (Gauthier), Leigh, Robin, Cindy (Robert), Lynne (Jerry) and several grand nephews and grand nieces.

He will be sadly missed by all, especially his new-found friends at the famous "Tim's coffee shop at the mall" and the friendships they have all enjoyed. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. #3, Lunenburg. A memorial service and interment will be held on Friday July 22, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater, for both Phillip and Elsie who passed away on June 26, 2022.
