Obituary for Mae Frances Stevens

The family of Mae Frances Stevens, 90, of Second Peninsula, are sad to announce her passing on Thursday evening at the South Shore Regional Hospital. Although we are truly sorry to see her go we know she was looking forward to arriving in her Heavenly home.

Mae was born in Pleasantville on October 2, 1928, the youngest child of Willis and Nellie Corkum.

Her father was lost at sea in 1937 and life, as that family knew it, changed forever. However, they persevered, and Mom attended school, and then went to work in Bridgewater. She met her future husband, Randy, at a skating party and they were married in June of 1950. Mae moved to Second Peninsula and became the very hardworking wife of a farmer. She worked alongside Dad in the fields, gardened, kept house, and raised two daughters. From an early age Mom had great faith in God and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour. She and Dad were members of Calvary Temple, (now Calvary Crossroads Pentecostal Church) in Mahone Bay where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the W.M. and helped wherever she could. She indulged her creative side by dabbling in oils, crocheting, knitting, quilting and writing poetry. Mom loved living near the ocean and spent hours walking around the shore and visiting Bachman’s Beach, collecting sea glass and shells. One of the happiest times in Moms life was when she became Gram to her dear Grandson Daniel. They spent many days together exploring and having fun on the Point.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Randolph B. Stevens Jr, sisters, Arleen (Percy Mosher) Lillian (Douglas Corkum) Bernice (Anson Wolfe) brothers Byron (Eleanor) and John (Isabelle).

She is survived by daughters, Cynthia Stevens, Janice (Tony Sampson), cherished Grandson Daniel Walters (Sarah Finlayson) and brother-in-law, Wilfred Stevens. She also leaves to mourn good and faithful friend and niece Brenda Croft, bestie Geraldine Meisner and her husband Bryan, Ronald and Cecil Publicover, her sons from another mother as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

On behalf of both Mom and Dad, we sincerely thank Dr. David Martell for his years of kindness, his compassionate care and his willingness to go above and beyond for the care of our parents. Mom thought the world of you.

Funeral service to celebrate Mae's life will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Crossroads Pentecostal Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. Rod Bezanson and Rev. James Haughn, officiating. Interment will be in the Second Peninsula Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Calvary Crossroads Pentecostal Mission, Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, Harbour View Haven Home For Special Care, Garden Club or to any other charity through the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg.
