Obituary for Gary Charles Tanner

Print
It is with great sadness that the family of Gary Charles Tanner, 65, of Centre announce his passing on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Lunenburg, Gary was the son of Charles Tanner of Northwest and the late Eileen (Wilneff) Tanner.

Gary started his working career at the Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering and then in 1981 went to work as a machinist at HighLiner Foods where he remained up until the time of his passing.

Gary's greatest passion was his family and enjoyed spending quality time with them and supporting his boys in their endeavours. His family will remember him for being the practical jokester and left them guessing at his many stories. His love for his home was evident in the many hours spent in his gardens, sharing his haunted house to the community during Halloween and decorated for any holiday season. In his earlier years he was an avid sportsman who enjoyed soccer and Karate where he received his Brown Belt.

Many will remember Gary for his love of his cars and in earlier years his motorcycles all of which were lovingly cared for, in a way that only Gary could. Gary had a great sense of style, always impeccably dressed and his sense of style will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Besides his father, Charles, Gary, is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Kathy; his cherished sons, Ryan (Lisa), Centre and Matthew (Ally), Mahone Bay, grandchildren, Susy and Xander; sister, Sandra (William) Skinner and niece, Justine (Matt) of Spectacle Lakes and his three furry friends, Gidget, Remi and Jada.

He was predeceased by his mother, Eileen.

A gathering for family and friends to celebrate Gary's life will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Gary' s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to his love of animals, SHAID Tree Animal Shelter.
