Obituary for Hazel Virtue Joudrey (Milbury)

Hazel Virtue  Joudrey (Milbury)
It is with much sadness that the family of the late Hazel Virtue Joudrey, 101, of Centre and formerly of Fauxburg announce her passing on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at home.

Born in Newburne, Hazel was a daughter of the late Hobart and Amanda (Wentzell) Milbury.

Hazel graduated from the Provincial Normal College, Truro and began her teaching career in the schools of Middle Cornwall, Elmwood, Pinehurst, Whynott’s Settlement, Upper Kingsburg, Riverport and later Blockhouse, retiring after teaching for 35 years.
She was a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association.

Hazel was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay where over the years she was member of the E. L. W. of the church and in her faith, had accepted Christ as her Saviour. In her spare time Hazel was an accomplished artist who loved to paint in oils, an avid seamstress, and enjoyed playing the piano.

She enjoyed life and found great joy in time spent with family and friends.

Hazel is survived by daughters, Nellie Veinote, Althea (Paul) Rhodenizer, both of Second Peninsula; Carolyn (Eric) Feener, Centre; son, Herschel (Vivian) Joudrey, Fauxburg; sisters, Vera Beck, Lunenburg; Inez Young, Digby; brother, Eldridge Milbury, Newburne; eight grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, George, sisters, Blanche, Ruth, Laura, Leoda, Erna, Lizzie and brothers, Everett and Bert.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Hazel, with her family during visitation at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg, on Friday from 7 -9 p.m. Funeral Service to celebrate Hazel’s life will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. Stephen Kristenson officiating. Interment will be in the Old Blockhouse Cemetery, Blockhouse.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay or to any other charity.
