Obituary for Lynn Margot Gladwin Rafuse

Lynn Margot Gladwin Rafuse
It is with great sadness that the family of Lynn Margot Gladwin Rafuse, of Chester, announces her passing after a long battle with cancer on Thursday April 30th at the QE II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.

Lynn had an interesting and varied life, as the eldest daughter of a military man she lived in many places throughout Canada while growing up. Starting a family in Kingston Ontario in the early 60’s she eventually lived in Boston where she started a successful modelling career, continuing in Toronto before returning home to Nova Scotia, in the mid-70’s, when she married Bud. They had many happy years in their lovely home in Pleasantville, owning and operating The Teazer in Mahone Bay and sailing the LaHave Islands in Windhawk and Moonraker, before eventually retiring in the early 90’s and moving to Chester where the community welcomed her and where she forged many great friendships.

Born on June 4th 1943 in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Charles Henry and Mona Marie (Ritcey) Gladwin Tidman.

Lynn is survived by her son Fred (Agnes) Thompson, Toronto; her daughter, Krista (Nigel Pask) Melanson, Dartmouth; sisters, Alice Marie (David) Patrick, Lunenburg; Jayne Winnifred (Gerry Joudrey) Gladwin, Bridgewater; brother, Dr. Charles Joseph “Joe” Gladwin, Bridgewater, nieces Megan, Katlyn and nephew Ben; grandchildren, Jennifer, Riley, Paris and J.J.; step-children, Gregory, Laurie, Eric and Lezlie; step-grandchildren, Alex, Lydia, Erica, Ben, Kris, Jill, Dan, Jennifer, Timothy, David, Katherine.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Laurier (Bud) Rafuse.

Despite her illness in the last month of her life Lynn was very happy, made so by the gracious and tender care she received from the Doctors and staff of the Victoria General Palliative Care Unit, as well as by the outpouring of love and affection she received from her friends and family. She deeply felt this from her friends and neighbours in Chester as well as old friends and family throughout the province, all of whom made special efforts to visit her and spend time with her during the last weeks of her life. For that her surviving family will be forever grateful as it bolstered her spirit immeasurably and eased the fears and pain of her passing.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service to celebrate Lynn’s life will be held Friday, May 8th, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Bridgewater United Church, Bridgewater, Rev. David Campbell, officiating. Interment will be in Second Peninsula Cemetery, Second Peninsula.

Flowers greatly appreciated, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Canada or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
