Obituary for
Clarence Edward Ruttan
It is with great sadness that the family of Clarence Edward Ruttan, 92, of Bridgewater, announces his passing on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at home.
Born in Sydenham, ON, he was a son of the late Sylvenus and Lillian Grace (Peters) Ruttan.
Clarence served during WW II with the Royal Canadian Volunteer Reserve and was also a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the PPCL1 2-1. He was a member of the Korean Veteran’s Association and a lifetime member of the General John M. Rockingham Memorial Unit #1, the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry Association, formerly a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 01, Charlottetown and most recently of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater.
Over the years, Clarence worked in bakeries in Charlottetown as well as Perfection Dairy. After moving to Bridgewater, he worked in the Bridgewater Parkade until retiring in 1989.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Charles “Eddie”, Charlottetown, PE; step-daughter, Patricia (Ken) Skidgmore, Mississauga; step-son, Terry (Rose) Conrad, Lunenburg; grandchildren, Sheena and Sean Conrad, Andrea Royers, Jessica Ford; great-grandchildren, Owen, Holly, Carter, and Ainsley as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Annie Mae MacLennan; daughter, Anna Marie; infant son, Clarence Jr.; brothers, Leonard and Oscar.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. In keeping with Clarence’s wishes, interment will be at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veteran’s Wing of the Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
