Obituary for Grevel Lawrence Acker

Grevel Lawrence Acker
It is with great sadness that the family of Grevel Lawrence Acker, 81, of First South announces his passing on Friday, June 24, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in First South, he was a son of the late Frank and Ellen (Acker) Acker.

Grevel started his working career at Kenny Crouse’s Grocery Store in Lunenburg and then worked as a meat cutter with David Craig in Riverport and Scotia Trawlers. He and his wife, Louise opened a General Store in First South and then retired after driving a School bus and delivering the mail in the local area for over 30 years. Many will remember Grevel for his love of making puddings and sausages from their home in First South.

Over the years he was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church where he sang in the church choir and was janitor with his wife, Louise for many years.

Grevel enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, spending time at home with his family, especially his grandchildren and he could always be found enjoying time in his gardens.

He enjoyed raising cows pigs and chickens in his younger days and loved his cats, Mickey and Minnie.

Grevel is survived by his wife, Louise; daughter, Darlene (Conrad) Mosher, First South; son, Kevin (Heather) Acker, First South grandchildren, Julia, Lacey, Natalie, sisters, June Briand, Lunenburg and Shirley Wile, Lower LaHave, brother, Harold (Diane) Acker, First South, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Florence, Marian, Grace, Olive, Isabel, Gladys, Irene, Lottie, Emily and Catherine and brothers, Lewis, James, Allan, Roy and infant brothers, Charles and Theodore.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service to celebrate Grevel’s life will be held Monday, July 4, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, First South, Rev. Rick Pryce officiating.
