Obituary for Gordon Edward Tooley

Gordon Edward  Tooley
It is with great sadness that the family of Gordon Edward Tooley, 80, of Bayport, and originally from England, announces his passing on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Feltham, England, he was the son of the late John and Elsie Violet (Doughty) Tooley.

He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #23, Lunenburg.

Gordon began his working career as an apprentice carpenter and after five years of hard work he achieved his Master Carpenter Certification. Before embarking any further he was conscripted for three years in the Royal Artillery where he was a bombardier while stationed in Germany.

His first civilian position was with the B.B.C where he worked as a set builder for several movie and television shows, one of which he was most proud of was the acclaimed original Dr. Who series. Gordon also worked with Shepperton Movie Studios in the same capacity. For the bulk of his career he was a shipbuilder with Sunseeker Ships, where he remained until retirement.

Gordon was very active in his community and volunteered many hours with St. Norberts Church and the Legion, helping with many “Big Breakfasts” as well as helping Linda at the Riverport Lions whenever needed.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Sharon (David) Sharp; U.K., Mandy (Simon) Gillespie; U.K., Georgina Tooley; Bridgewater, Catherine (Ian ) Crouch; Hebbville, Michelle (Neil) Heighes; Melvin Square; sons, David Edward (Kim) Tooley, Sean Tooley, Ralph (Emma) Tooley, Peter (Joanne) King, David (Lisa) King, all of the U.K. He was also a very proud grand-dad to seventeen grandchildren both here in Nova Scotia and in the U.K. He is also survived by brother John (Rose) Tooley; U.K., as well as several nieces and nephews in Ontario and the U.K.

Besides his parents, Gordon is predeceased by his sister Joan White of the U.K.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 in St. Norbert’s Roman Catholic Church, Lunenburg at 2:00 p.m. Father James MacDonald O.M.I. officiating. Interment to follow in the Bayport Cemetery, Bayport.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations made to the South Shore Regional Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
