DONALD RAYMOND HILTZ, Age 90 of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.

Donald was the only child of Lindsay and Theresa (Tessie Demone) of First Peninsula, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia.

Don is survived by his wife of 17 years, Ardith Canning Hiltz; his cousins, Robert (Barbara) Stevens, Bridgewater; Andrew Stevens, Toronto; Susanne (Bill) Roy, Guysborough; Kathryn (John) Hanson, Saint John, NB; Michele Stevens (Al Mosher), Second Peninsula; Hugh Corkum, Lunenburg; Sandra Veenstra, Vancouver Island; Jim (Kelli) Veinot, Bridgewater; Rosemary (Gerald) Hebb, Bridgewater; and Janice (Phillip) Wentzell, Berwick.

After graduating from Lunenburg Academy, he joined the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Lunenburg and continued his career with the bank in Saint John, NB and Halifax until he retired.
Don was always willing to share his musical talents and for many years arranged the popular hymn sings at Calvary Temple in Mahone Bay. He faithfully played for the monthly church service at LaHave Manor, at the monthly birthday party at Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg and the Veterans sing song at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital. He also played for special church services at the Lunenburg County jail.

Thanks to the medical staff at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital for the care and comfort they provided to Don during his final days. Thanks also to special neighbours Ken & Carolyn McAllister, Barbara Lily and Harold & Margaret Ross for all their kindness over the past years.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3 Lunenburg where a funeral service will be held, Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Rev. James Haughn and Rev. Richard Moore officiating. Interment will be in Sunny Valley Cemetery, Centre.

In lieu of flowers, if you desire, donations to the Lunenburg Academy Foundation, Northwest Baptist Church or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
