Captain Hugh Plant - CCGC

I have many memories of Captain Plant while I was an Officer Cadet at the Canadian Coast Guard College.

I remember the first ceremonial divisions held on Friday afternoon in the early fall of 1977.  I was the first class leader of our group and delegated to present the Officer Cadets to Captain Plant for inspection. Coast Guard College protocol required all orders to be spoken in French that week.  Therefore, a very nervous 18- year old from Toronto presented his class to the Director of the Canadian Coast Guard College, hoping he would not slip up after hours of memorization and practice.  I was very grateful that afternoon for Captain Plant's patience and understanding.  His leadership and healthy reminders helped to guide this Officer Cadet into the Canadian Coast Guard Fleet.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to Mrs. Plant and her family.
